Occupational Segregation of Black Women

Our researchers worked with the Work Equity team at the National Employment Law Project (NELP) to develop a research plan to answer questions related to the occupational segregation of Black women using available Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics data sources. We produced analysis of American Community Survey data that was used both for internal planning processes and for a blog post titled Hustling against Criminalization and its Employment by Han Lu, a fact sheet titled Occupational Segregation of Black Women in the US produced by Hannah Chimowitz, and a report titled Purpose & Resistance: Black Women Workers Confronting Occupational Segregation authored by Shayla Thompson and Kemi Role. We also provided ongoing training and mentorship to support NELP Work Equity researchers in continuing their research on occupational segregation in-house.
